The Greater the Miracle, the Greater the Opposition

IT'S BEEN SO LONG since I last wrote it feels like. I miss my family!!!!

Sooo last Saturday we were still in our trio. We went to Walsall and did some shopping at Primark and printed photos for our T books. Primark is the best thing that's ever happened they have the best clothes for so cheap it's like Target but way better and cheaper and bigger Amelia would love it. After that we took the train straight to Rugeley and Sister McCall had us for dinner. I looooove sister McCall. After every meal she always has so much food that she lets us take home. We also asked her to drop us off at Morrison's after because we had to buy food for all the sisters staying at our flat the next night. She gave us 20 pounds so we wouldn't have to pay for it with our own money!!! She is so sweet!!!!!! She also lent us a ton of sleeping bags and blankets.  The Garner's picked us up from Morrison's so we could do a less active stop by that we've had planned for weeks but he wasn't even home..... so we went to see Dean instead with them. It ended up being perfect and exactly what was supposed to happen. Dean has had a rough few weeks. He has really felt the impact of Satan in his life because of his decision to be baptized. I always feel so sick coming out of his house because the smell is so strong of weed. We showed him a video about addiction called "You will be Freed" which was so good and he loved it. He always has that desire and want until we leave. We have to constantly remind him of how he felt when we showed up at his door the first time. The Word of Wisdom is so important. It makes or breaks baptisms over here. When we are addicted to harmful substances, we are within the grasp of Satan. It is much harder to follow God and to have his spiritual influence and promptings.

The next day we only had an hour of church because of the gas leak and heating issue in our chapel. It was super laaaame. It was Steven's last Sunday to come to church before baptism, but he didn't show. I was playing the piano and every time someone came into the chapel I would look up to see if it was Steven but it never was and then I'd lose my place haha. We tried calling and texting him several times but there was never an answer. We were so sad. We tried knocking some potentials after church. It's so hard because people invite you to come back but 80% of the time the next time you knock their door they open the curtains, see that it's you, and don't answer. We picked up the sisters at train station that were staying with us that night. Sister Ackley, and Sister Larsen from Swindon, and Sister Beazer and Sister McAravey from Peterborough. It was such a fun night!!!! The next day was Elder Cook!!!!! Wohooo!!!!! It was about a 2.5 hour travel to Solihull by train. It was so crazy having 200 missionaries with the same mission call in one room. Seeing all my MTC group was so fun. Elder Cook is just wow. So is his wife!!!! President spoke to us first. He told us there are 11 million people within our mission boundaries. He told us we need to be doing more more more! Specifically more finding, ABF - "Always Be Finding." He always tells us our goal is to teach repentance then baptize converts. He told us to talk to everybody, and add one more potential every day. Elder Cook served his mission in Bristol! So the Southern Wales part of my mission as well as the Cheltenham zone was in his mission. He shared with us a lot of incredible stories. Then for like 20 minutes he talked about how missionaries are most often assigned to mission presidents rather than missions - crazy!!!! My love for President Leppard grew so much during the talk. He then went on to give us an "apostolic blessing" the spirit in the room was so thick. He taught us to NEVER underestimate the power of the atonement. He told us that he knows the face of the Saviour, and that he knows his voice. That made Him so much more real to me. It really testified to me that He is the one who leads and directs his church through prophets and apostles. He has felt so much closer to me this week. At the very end of the talk Elder Cook told us that the mission will not only bless our lives, but that it will bless every living thing that we love. :) (Coco and Bean) kidding. My family and friends too. ;)

Tuesday we went to the mission home to drop off sister grant so she could pick up her trainee. She is the sweetest girl from Armenia!!!! I immediately felt so connected to her because of Lidia. I asked her if she knew Ethan Bradshaw (Mom, the boy you accidentally called Zenos) because he is serving his mission there and she gasped and pulled out a picture of him from her bag oh my gosh he was serving in her ward!!!!!! It was so much fun talking to her and having that connection. What a small world!!!!! Also, my dear friend Elder O'hare from the MTC serving in London, his twin brother came out and his trainer is Elder Kinnunen from my last district!!!!!!! Oh my gosh it was so fun meeting him and we get to serve in the same zone!!! We met a girl named Sophie on the train ride back and taught her the resto. There was a woman listening to us teach it and after she was like, "Excuse me what ward are you in?" We told her Cannock and turns out she's a less active member! We got to talk with her for a little while. She's not interested in meeting with us, but such a cool experience. Everything happens for a reason. That night I had a slight panic attack because I realized that on Friday we had scheduled an appointment to meet the woman named Jackie in town centre that we found on the way to church last week, but we found out we had a follow up trainers meeting that day too at the same time. We didn't have any of her contact info we were just planning to meet her there at 10:00!!! But we didn't want to abandon her so we had noooo idea what to do!!! I told my DL that my goal for the week was to let God do more of the work and to have more faith in his omnipotence. So I told Sister Price that we were going to go to town centre at 10 the next day (Wednesday) and I knew God would make a way that she was going to be there so we could reschedule (I sounded crazy) but she agreed.

The next morning I woke up, I studied, and I fasted that Jackie would miraculously be in town centre. By 10 we were out the door. We were exactly obedient and headed for town centre!! After 20 minutes of searching we felt pretty defeated and slightly out of our minds. We sat down and Sister Price said a prayer. She felt that we needed to go back to St Luke's (the church in our town centre) I was like sure....we can try. So we walked over and walked around the church. We were just about to leave when we heard someone in the distance shout "Hello girls!" We turned around and there was Jackie..... I could not believe it. She said, "Are we still meeting here on Friday?" And we said "No, that's why we came to find you!!!" We obviously didn't realize that made us sound slightly mad hahaha. But we rescheduled with her and get to see her tomorrow.:) After that experience I literally had to sit down and process everything that happened. WHAT THE HECK. Why haven't I been able to have that faith my whole life???? Gods hand is in the work and in our lives so much more than we realize!!!! This miracle changed my life and my missionary work this whole week. That day I talked to literally every single person I saw. No one wanted to hear what we had to say. Sister Price and I found that the greater the miracle the greater the opposition. There were so many times in the rest of the day we wanted to give up and felt so defeated. We had to constantly remind ourselves of the pure and perfect miracle we had just experienced hours before, and that was enough to get us through. We taught a lot of good lessons to less actives and investigators. It's so funny because sometimes people will only talk to us because we are American. Just like us Americans love British accents, British people fawn over American accents. It's so strange. They're like "your accent is beautiful" hahahahahaha so weird.

Thursday we had to go the mission home for interviews with president. I am so blessed to have him!!!!! He is so knowledgable and close to the spirit. I got my packages too, finally!!!!!! Best day ever. Little bits and pieces from home made me so happy. I basically gave all the senior couples in the mission home heart attacks though because they forgot to pay the fee for my packages which is why they took so long....... it's ok though they made it. :) Elder Devoz made us some Colombian food for lunch it was sooo yummy. We ate dinner with the Mawles I love them so much. We get to spend Christmas Day with them. :)

Friday we had to go to the mission home AGAIN. so sick of traveling literally all week it was the worst. Went for a follow-up trainers meeting but got to see my MTC friends and Sister Smyrnova love and miss her so much. President spoke to us. Wow he is amazing. Taught us mostly about faith and how it's scriptural opposite is certainty. Which I though was cool. Faith is not having perfect knowledge. Every day people tell us, "Well, I would believe in God if I could see him." But unfortunately... it doesn't work like that. He then showed us a scale of faith starting with "some faith" going to "perfect faith" and perfect faith in Jesus Christ is our ultimate goal. Not mighty faith, or full of faith, but perfect faith that Jesus is the Christ and that he is the way back to a loving Heavenly Father. At night we taught Oliver. He is amazing and will be baptized before Christmas (pray he chooses a date soon). The Garner's came with us. They were sent from heaven above. Bro. Garner is our Ward Mission Leader he is the most dedicated person I've ever met. Wow. Missionaries found them tracting which gives me hope. Dean and Steven are still very much in the air. They both want it so badly but have a lot of road blocks in the way. We are still meeting with them frequently.

Saturday was great the STL's came and we did some work overs! I was with Sister Swap from Sandy. She's going home next month! Crazy. We mostly met with less actives and tracted. Sister Price and Belnap contacted streets that Brother Garner had prayed over and felt that we should knock. It went super well!!! When they left Sister Price and I went to this cute little vintage shop and talked to the store owner. He wanted us to come back and teach him more. Then I had a feeling we should stop by this random potential so we did. Her name is Victoria. We taught her the resto and gave her a BOM and she wants to meet with us again! She's 16 from Latvia. She is so open and willing to learn more and wants to be happy!!! We also were trying to knock a potentials door but accidentally knocked the wrong one but got a new investigator from Poland from it! All things happen for a reason.

Sunday was greaaat. I started the morning by studying the teachings of Wilford woodruff manual. I had no idea he was the prophet who ended polygamy. Also didn't know he helped to convert 2,000 people in England on his mission... I've got some serious work to do. Also, for FHE Mcewans, you should read the very first story in that manual about Robert Mason. IT'S SO COOL!!!!! Please read it's my favorite story about Wilford Woodruff. I love my morning studies!!!! Didn't know why people used the term "spiritually fed" until the mission. I can't remember if I said this in my last letter home.... but USE THE INSTITUTE BOOK OF MORMON STUDY MANUAL!!!!!! Oh my gosh it is so amazing and I get so much out of my scripture reading every day it's insane. Church was amazing. I love the Cannock ward. I want to serve here forever hahaha it's going to be so hard to leave. But luckily I'll be in Cannock for a while;). The members are so good to us and prayed for us by name in sacrament meeting which meant so much. While walking to church we were teaching a woman from Nigeria who was on her way to the train station but she was walking like .2 miles per hour so we had to emergency call a member to come pick us up. Sister Price and I taught gospel principals it went well. I love teaching about the sabbath day. I love how in Exodus 20 when the commandments are given, there are several verses explaining the importance of keeping the sabbath day holy where all the other commandments are just given and not even explained! Haha. Really shows the importance of it. I wish I was better at that back home. After church we had a ton of meetings. Then we had dinner and went to find a potential we met on the street. It took us ages to find her house then finally when we got there it didn't even exist and her number didn't either. We were so sad because she was perfect and had a daughter and was so interested in learning more... happens a ton though. We decided to knock around it and the next door we knocked there was a man named nick who lived there and immediately we knew he was the reason we couldn't find that ladies house.... wow. Miracles!!! He would have been baptized right then and there if he could haha. He kept hugging us and kissing our heads though it was super awkward because Sister Price and I were just standing there like uhhhhhh we can't hug you hahahaha. We taught him on his porch he brought out chairs for us. It's freezing now here in England. SO COLD. And it gets dark at literally 6 pm. And it's supposed to start getting dark at like 4 which is no good for missionary work. Especially in dodgy areas. We taught Nick the commandments (don't ask, just felt it) they warned us in the MTC that sometimes we'd teach the law of chastity and word of wisdom very first. I should have believed them. It went great though and he committed to keeping both of them. He wouldn't stop calling us on our walk home to make sure we made it home safely haha. Good guy. He's 27 has a really long orange beard he's in a band and has a tattoo of Jesus on his arm. He asked me to marry him multiple times but I politely declined. He said he's never been more happy in his life than when we showed at his door and asked if we could teach him.

Today we are in Lichfield playing tennis with the elders and some members because it's Elder Devoz's birthday. Woo woooooo he's my mission step dad because Elder Wall is in Birmingham zone now and I'm still being trained. I get to play the piano for the primary program next week I love being able to play the piano here because everyone in Utah plays so I have had so much opportunity to get better at playing with people singing!!!! I have learned almost every hymn!!! yesterday I chose the hymns for sacrament and I chose "Let Zion in Her Beauty Rise" and "'Tis Sweet to Sing the Matchless Love" and no one knew them hahahahahaha. It's so weird they sing songs we don't sing and we sing songs they don't. Also brother Denton came up to me after and told me I'd be a better drummer than a piano player because I pound hahahahah. Oops. :)

I love you guys!!!!! Thank you for your support and your prayers. I love it here, it will be the best 18 months for my life. Being a missionary is unlike anything else.

P.S. Look up the "Liken unto the Scriptures" videos. They're so cheesy but awesome hahahaha you guys will laugh. Please watch them. Please. They're like 45 minute musicals. They're so random.

Cheers cheers,

Sister McEwan xx

When There is Faith, There are Miracles

First Transfer Complete

Hey y'all!!!! Our p-day is today because Elder Cook is coming Monday. This week has been slightly madness haha. We had a tri-zone meeting on Tuesday to have training for the Poppy Appeal for the British Legion. We are selling poppy trinkets for a charity next month. It's a huge thing here there are poppies everywhere. But ya it's a mission wide thing to help get donations. Hopefully it'll help with missionary work. The meeting was super fun though because I got to see part of my MTC group. It was so fun being together again. I can't wait to see the rest on Monday.

We've had a rough week with Dean. We will see him tonight. I don't think he will make his baptism date, but he still wants it so bad. Addictions are hard. Our chapel is still messed up so now we have to postpone Stevens baptism too to the next week (hopefully) opposition galore right now honestly. Steven is solid though we are excited for him. Wednesday we knocked a lot and found some potentials in Huntington. One lady let us in and said she had been investigating our church for a while but chose to go to a Jewish church instead. She was really sweet though it was nice to talk to someone who would listen. Funny story we were at a DA in Huntington and we were waiting for a bus back to Cannock City Centre but it wasn't coming for 20 minutes so we decided we would knock doors until it came. The bus came every 20 minutes but every time it stopped someone would open up and actually converse with us hahaha so we missed the bus like 8 times and ended up spending the rest of our night knocking in Huntington. It worked out though we found some great people. Wednesday night was dodge night and we found out Elder Gosturani and Wall would be leaving and going to Leicester and Birmingham zones. :( Broke my heart. Elder Wall called and told me I'd be pinkwashing in Wylde Green and my heart literally broke in half but he was just joking. So annoying.

We had a glorious day planned for Friday but Thursday night we got a call saying we had to go to the mission home for transfers the next day and pick up another companion cause we are going to be in a trio until her trainee leaves the MTC on Tuesday. (Yay I won't be the greenest greenie anymore) her name is Sister Grant and I loooove her. She's from New Zealand. Such a sweetheart. She has 4 months left of the mission. But it's weird and sometimes hard being with three hahah. I got a letter from the MTC President and I wept. He is the best.

I got to see Daines I mean Elder Wallace for the first time!!! Woo woo it was so fun and so weird not seeing him in a Lone Peak High School setting hahahah :) so awesome though he's my new zone leader!!!!! Such a sweetheart. I also got to see a bunch of the girls that I found on Facebook and Instagram that left before me. Also said bye to Elder Gosturani and Elder Wall from the Lichfield zone. It was sad. I'm so thankful I got to start my mission with such dedicated leaders. My new district leader is Elder Devous from Colombia. It's just Sister Price and I and the Lichfield elders. Aka a double date district.

So all the sisters out of Lichfield, Coventry, and Birmingham zones have to sleep over at our flats Sunday night so travel is easier Monday morning to see Elder Cook. So since we are the only sisters in the Lichfield zone........ that means we've got a looooooot of sisters staying with us haha we are freaking out because we have no food and no where for them to sleep. And our bathroom is flooded because of the flat above us but they won't get a flippin plumber and we've tried contacting mission office and the land lady and no one will do anything about it!!!!!! It is sooooo disgusting and carpeted which makes it even worse and smell even worse. It will be very interesting. But a grand slumber party haha.

Today while walking to email we talked to a woman named Jackie who was the sweetest!! We gave her a tour of the chapel and she wants to meet with us next week woo wooooooo! Saturdays are the best days for missionary work so I was kinda upset about it being p-day to be honest haha. Never thought I'd say that.

Nothing else really to say. We've got some fab progressing investigators and doing all we possibly can to hasten the work! I get so emotional every time I hear the song Army of Helaman. Instead of saying "We will be the Lord's missionaries" it's "We are now the Lord's missionaries" blows my mind that I'm here. Sometimes I'm like, "What the heck I'm I doing?! What are all these 18, 19, and 20 year-olds doing leaving everything they know behind?" This week I was studying how Ishmael and his family left Jerusalem after Lehi's sons told him to come with them and I was like "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT???? Are you crazy!!!!?? Why would you leave everything you know behind???" It says that the Lord had softened their hearts. I know that the Lord softens the heart of all his missionaries. He needs us! We serve because we love the Lord, but I know he helps us be able to overcome the challenge a lot more than we think. :) It takes a lot of faith. But when there is faith, there are miracles. And miracles are how missionary work gets done.

This week I also studied about the Tree of Life in the Institute Book of Mormon Student Manual. I encourage you guys to do that! It was wonderful! Especially the comparisons of the great and spacious building by Elder Glenn L. Pace. FHE there you go. Tree of life is the bomb.

Cheers

Because I Love God and all His Children

Hello family!!!! It's been an exciting week here in Cannock and Rugeley!!!!

Monday we went to see Dean for the second time. He is seriously a miracle! After his car accident in 2009 he had cancer. He knows that there is a reason he is still here! We had an incredible lesson on the restoration and he knew it was true with no doubt. He asked us what the next step was and we taught him about repentance then baptism and committed him to baptism for November 12!!!!!!!! He's got a lot of work to do because he is addicted to smoking, but he is totally willing to do anything possible to give it up. I can't even explain the happiness I felt that night.

Tuesday night we met Dean at his house and went to the church with him. He only lives a few houses down which is so awesome because he's in a wheelchair. We gave him a chapel tour and he looooved it. He was telling everyone about his baptism. Also, I've never really taken the time to admire the artwork in our church buildings. There was a picture we looked at for a while, it's the one where peter James and John were giving Joseph Smith the priesthood. We were showing Dean that picture and it just radiates the truth!!!!! It just feels so right. Dean calls us "His angels" because he knows God answered his prayer by sending us to his door. He is always so concerned we won't make it home safely and asks us to text him when we have haha.

Wednesday we started with meeting a Russian woman named Tanya we found last week. She let us in and wanted to give us tea so badly and didn't understand we didn't drink it hahaha. It was majorly reminding me of my MTC days with Sister Smyrnova because they had the same accent and misused the same words haha it made me miss her a ton. But I was able to use a lot of the Russian words she taught me which was great. :) Anyways she was mostly telling us about her husband Moses from Ghana. They were married for 7 years and he passed away from cancer. She said, "He was a gift from God and so quickly was taken away." It was so sad. We gave her a plan of salvation pamphlet in Russian that she was super excited about. She didn't have much time so we shared a quick message and she wants us to come again next week. Miracle moment - Sister Price and I were knocking and decided we needed to have more member present lessons but didn't know who we should contact. Two seconds later Antony in our ward drove around the corner and stopped us saying "Hey!!!! I want to go teaching with you guys!!!" We were like what the heck hahaha so awesome!

After some finding we met Steven to teach him the commandments!!! It went SO WELL. Steven is another miracle. He is 20 years old and doesn't smoke or drink he's completely pure which in England is literally impossible to come by. We met a dude this week who said "I know your church is true but I would never give up weed and girls even if it is." Uhg. But anyways. Steven is so fantastic. We taught him word of wisdom, law of chastity, etc., and how it is a commandment to repent and be baptized. We asked him if baptism is something he wanted and he said "Yes when is the soonest day I can get baptized!?" OHHHhh my goodness Sister Price and I were so happy. He went from being an atheist two weeks ago to wanting baptism!!! We set his date for October 22!!!

Thursday we had district meeting in Walsall. The people in Walsall are crazy! There's a reason sisters can't serve there hahaha. We met this guy named Ken from New York. The elders said he is literally in town centre all day every day and his main purpose is just to go around annoying people. No job or anything. Just annoys people. Also the elders in my zone I swear get injured every day. Elder Decker was in the hospital because of broken ribs from his bike I felt so bad for him. We met Steven later at the Morrison's and he was just beaming. He told us he wants to serve a mission he is so great.:) He asked us all about missions and really wants to go. We taught him the law of the tithe and he had no problem with it. For some reason that's the commandment I am always the most nervous to teach - I NEED MORE FAITH!!!!!!

We brought Steven to meet Dean with us after and we taught Dean the 15 step stop smoking lesson. It obviously went well because right after we taught it he pulled out a cigarette and started smoking...He
wants baptism so bad it was so painful to watch. After our lesson Antony, a YSA ward member, came over to Deans. Sister Price and I needed to do some finding because we hadn't all day and we had an apointment at 8 with an investigator. So Antony and Dean and Steven all did some Book of Mormon study together!!!! They said it went great!!!! Dean loves the Book of Mormon. He always texts us and says, "Instead of watching t.v. today I am reading our book." I love it.

We did some finding and ran into a drunk dude who was determined to take us to the pub and get us drunk. We thought we lost him after knocking some doors then he found us again and kept asking if he could kiss us. Finally we just booked it to the church and locked ourselves in and called Elder Wall in panic hahaha. We need pepper spray or something.

The Garners saved us from the church and then we went to meet a former investigator, Terry. He was wonderful!! He is 71 he lost his wife to cancer a few years ago and lives on his own with his ADORABLE 2 Westie puppies. Ohhh myyyy gooodnesss look them up I was crying. And it made me miss Coco and Bean haha. Anyways also he pulled out a McEwan's beer bottle and gave it to me and let me keep it!! Don't worry it was empty. ;) But yeah he said it's his favourite beer (we will work on that lolllll) we had a really good lesson on faith.

Friday we got to see the STLs again because they came to Cannock to do work overs!!!! I GOT TO SPEND TIME WITH SISTER BELNAP AGAIN!!!!!!!!! I love her too much. I learn so much from her it's insane. It was only for about an hour but it was still amazing. We had a DA with the Dentons. They started feeding us every week haha I love it:) they are the sweetest and I feel so at home when I'm there. Sister Denton says that feeding the missionaries is her contribution to missionary work, which is totally true! If she wouldn't have fed us last Friday we wouldn't have been near her house to find Dean!!! At night we taught Oliver actually, no, Oliver taught me!!!! He shared with us what he had been studying which was 3 Nephi chapter 13. It talks about doing things such as praying, and fasting, and going to church, because you love God, not because you want man to see you doing those things. It was just what I needed to hear.  I've been so caught up in numbers because Cannock had no investigators when we came so we have lacked in doing less active work. I need to reevaluate my purpose, to invite ALL to come unto Christ!!! Because I love God, and ALL his children.

Saturdayyyy we did some door knocking in the morning. There was the sweetest little girl about 8 years old who was telling us which doors to knock. Every door she told us to knock we got a potential investigator hahahaha. No wonder we are supposed to become as a child!!! ;) We had a train to catch but didn't want to waste any time so we knocked doors on the way to the station. Remember that one creep we met the other week on the streets????? Just our luck we knocked his door. You're kidding. Sister Price and I looked at each other in sheer panic. He kept telling us to come inside and we just ran for our life. Blessed.

We met with an investigator in Rugeley named Emily Saturday afternoon and she's lovely. She's 17 and has been investigating the church for a while. Then we did some gardening at the Garners (lol). At night we were walking home and there was this SUPER drunk guy who had to be held up by his friends he was so drunk and I just started to cry because I felt so bad for him and how wicked the world is and how I just want people to find real happiness. :(

Sunday was horrible and also amazing. We had 6 investigators committed to coming to church on Sunday and then bishop called and said the Cannock building had a gas leak so we had to attend a different ward!!!!!! FLIP!!!!!!!!! The next closest chapel is Walsall which is a good 40 minute drive....... sooooo only 2 of them made it. Dean couldn't because of his wheelchair which is a bummer because he has a baptism date. But Steven and Emily came. It ended up being a blessing because the talks and lessons were fit EXACTLY to the needs of those 2 investigators, and Steven got to be around the Walsall elders. And Emily made a friend. And it's our last week with Elder Wall because we have transfers on Friday and after 7 months of being in Walsall, President has decided to move him haha. Super sad because he is my mission father. The Walsall ward was drooling over sister price and I because sisters aren't allowed to serve in Walsall. So they kept taking pictures of us and offered to give us dinner appointments hahaha. Members like sisters way better than elders;););) jkjkjk. After church Sister Price and I went serious door knocking and found some great potentials woooohoo. We have 30 pots to stop by this week which will be so busy and SO GOOD!!!!!.

While knocking yesterday there were miracles galore!!! It's incredible how mindful God is of every person. One lady named Lydia... I'm not sure if she is ready yet to hear our message, but she needed love and encouragement from Sister Price and I because her cat died the day before. She cried to us and we did everything possible to comfort her. I told her all about Zoey and how she'd see her cat again. Then there was another dude who was out walking his dog last week when the STL's were in Cannock to pick us up! So we never met him, but they did! We told him it was a sign that he needed to meet with us. ;) We also taught a guy who was covered in tattoos and gave him a BOM and he wants us to come back! There were a ton of other incredible people which made all the mean ones worth it. ;)

Today we are in flippin Walsall again because we can't go to our building. We're making French toast and celebrating Elder Wall finally leaving. Kidding we are so sad.

ALSO GUESS WHAT?!!???!!! This is the best part of this email............ ELDER COOK FROM THE TWELVE IS COMING TO OUR MISSION TO SPEAK TO US ON MONDAY!!!!!!! I cannot wait!!!!!!! It was a total surprise!!! I'll be counting down the days. :):):)

Mission life is great. I only miss home when I'm not working as hard as I should be. But I really do love it here. Thank you to everyone for your support. Each email and prayer means the world and I read and reread them all through the week.

Cheers! cheers! cheers! Tarah! Tarah! Tarah!

I Could Feel Heaven Cheering Me On

There's a saying in the mission that goes like this: "Every door you knock in England there's a baptism in Mexico." And there have been loads of baptisms in Mexico this week LET ME TELL YA!!!

This was the best week so far. But it did start with quite the trial. Tuesday I woke up feeling so achy and extremely exhausted. I had chills and all flu symptoms. It was very difficult to walk and I looked very weird trying to. It was probably the most pain I've ever been in haha. But I didn't want to give in and knew I would be strengthened to get done what we needed to that day!! We did some finding then Ingrid called and asked that we bring her more pears to the hospital so we did that. After the walk to the hospital I literally had to sit down and contemplate if I could go any further. I was extremely stressed because our dinner appointment was about an hour uphill walk. But I knew if I prayed the entire time there I'd make it so I pressed on. The words from a talk from Jeffrey R. Holland kept repeating in my mind as I was walking (and taking very frequent breaks),

Sarah Adleen Giles

"Keep loving. Keep trying. Keep trusting. Keep believing. Keep growing. Heaven is cheering you on today, tomorrow, and forever."

I could literally feel heaven cheering me on!!! I said a prayer and asked Heavenly Father if Sarah was helping me. I asked that he give me a sign that she was. Every few minutes I would see a butterfly - without even consciously looking for them. Then and there I knew that my Heavenly Father, and my sweet cousin Sarah, and all others who have gone before me, were helping me get to that member's home. I was practically unable to move by the time I got there, but I made it.

There is a bus stop right in front of their house that goes to the church (BLESSED) so we took that to youth. With no luck in potential investigators that day Sister Price and I were pretty bummed. Right when we got on the bus the driver recognized our badges and asked if he could learn more - what the heck!!! That does not happen!!! What if I had stayed at the flat all day?! Heavenly Father blesses us when we put all of our faith in him, and press forward. PRESS FORWARD WITH A STEADFASTNESS IN CHRIST. Amen to that.

Wednesday I felt a ton better it was just a 24-hour bug. I woke up pretty sad that I was going to miss Amelia's 18th birthday, but that only meant I had to get to work so I wouldn't think about it!! We contacted loads of less-actives and invited a lot to Conference. Also knocked some doors and found potentials. Woooohoo none of them are answering our calls though.

Thursday = EXCHANGES YAY!!!!!!!! The whole week I was praying and praying and praying that I would enjoy exchanges. I really was not looking forward to packing stuff to go to Coventry for the day and do work outside our area. (Lame. Don't be like me) But ya. We had district meeting and finding that morning in Cannock with the elders and they found a ton of potentials for us which is sweet. Then the STL's Sister Belnap and Sister Gillette came to pick us up and take us to Coventry. THREE HOURS LATER we got there because there was sooo much traffic. Uggg. I hate when hours are wasted. It's fine. When we got there Sister Belnap and I went to a dinner appointment and then started some door knocking. What the heck I learned SO MUCH FROM HER. Oh my gosh my prayers were answered. We knocked in some sketchy student housing at night but literally every door listened to us and we even got invited in and got to teach the sweetest Muslim girls. We showed them the "Because of Him" video and the spirit was sooo thick in that room. That video is incredible and touches everyone no matter what faith. We talked to so many great people and made loads of return appointments (sad I can't go with her). But ya she got me so excited about door knocking and now I basically beg Sister Price to knock doors haha. I'm praying I get to serve with Sister Belnap one day!!!! She's incredible!!!! I want to be just like her!!!

Friday was the end of the exchange. :( I seriously was so sad to leave the STL flat. We had such a fun night together. We get to do exchanges again though next month! We got back to Cannock around 4 and GOT TO WORK!!!! We knocked loads of doors. We found a woman from Russia named Tanya who wanted us to come back, another woman we made a return appointment with, we met a boy named Callum which I honestly just wants to talk to us because we are American :/. Seriously I can't tell you how many times I've been snap chatted for being American by teenagers. You tell them you're American and their jaws drop and they snap you to all your friends like you're some sort of celebrity. It's hilarious. Later that day Callum texted us and asked if we wanted to go clubbing so ya we deleted his number.

We had a dinner appointment with the Dentons. We arrived about 4:45 but dinner wasn't until 5 so Sister Price and I dropped off our bags at their house and told them we were going to knock for a few minutes. I'M SO GLAD WE DID!!!!!! We knocked a few and no one answered so we thought we'd knock just one more ("4th floor, last door" - Dieter) and wow. A man in a wheelchair answered. We told him who we were and he was just in shock. He told us how much he loved Jesus Christ and how he has made him strong. His name is Dean and he was in a really horrific car accident in 2009 that left the left side of his body paralyzed. But he is still 100% there and nothing holds him back from doing the things he wants to do (he literally rock climbs!!! And owns a construction company!!!) We asked him if he went to church and he said no. We asked him if he wanted to come with us next Sunday. We said we would walk with him because he lives just down the street from the church! He started to cry and said that he had been praying to go back to church. He was so happy. He let us in for a minute and we showed him and his mom the "Because of Him" video. They were both left speechless and Dean said that he had chills and was so touched by it. Sister Price and I couldn't stop smiling. His mom said that we looked like angels and that we were just glowing!!! Haha. We are meeting with both of them tonight and we're SO excited. :) That was the best day of my life. Seriously. Then Sister Denton fed us an incredible meal which made it that much better. :) After we stopped by Oliver and he gave us a tour of his garden. Such a sweetie.

Saturday. Hard day. We went to teach Kelvin and he said he didn't want to see us anymore. That this wasn't what he was looking for and he was perfectly happy without religion. It's okay though. We are going to keep stopping by to say hi and see how he's doing and he agreed to that. We will get him some day. I think that it is just too much of a commitment for Kelvin. He has been taught on and off for 3 years though. He keeps coming back. I don't understand what's holding him back. After we went to watch the General Women's Conference at Lichfield. SO AMMMAAAZEEE. We also watched the Saturday morning session live (5 pm England time).

Sunday conference!!!! We met our investigator Steven at the train station at 10 and headed to Lichfield. We taught him the restoration on the way there and emphasized prophets. In England they have access to conference on their computers so most just watch it at home. So it was basically just us and the elders at the chapel. It was so good for Steven though because he's the same age as the elders so he got along really well with them. He even asked us, "What would I be called if I were an elder?" He wanted to go by Elder Green for the day hahaha. We watched the Saturday afternoon session and then we watched the Sunday morning session live. I was so impressed he stayed with us the whole time and watched the whole thing!!!! He loved it!! We will get to watch the Sunday afternoon session on our iPads sometime this week. On the way back we talked about what he felt and he said peace. I have a lot of hope for Steven! We also met a girl on the way back on the train named Mia and we invited her to sing in our sacrament one day cuz I guess she's a super good singer. Hehehe we are so sneaky in our ways to get people to church. ;)

Conference was amazing. There was so much on missionary work and I just ate it up!!! It's a lot different watching it on the mission versus watching it at home. I did miss watching it in my pajamas, but I do believe I got a little more out of it this time around. ;)

Every time you hang up the phone with someone from England this is literally how it goes:

Me: Bye

Them: Bye! Bye! Bye! Cheers! Tarah!!! Tarah!!! Bye!! Cheers!!!
Tarah!!! Bye Bye!!!

So annoying. I love it here.

Cheers!!!!!

It Makes Everything Worth It

Hellloooo family :) I'm loving life here!! Every week seems shorter and shorter. I can't believe I'm already writing again (I used to hate when missionaries said that but it's legit). My week was greatttt and full of lessons. I'll give ya some highlights:

Monday we had P-day and the elders forced me to eat an Indian kebab and be "kebabtized." It was awful. Don't try it. I wish I could tell you what was in it but I have no idea. Other than lamb.

Tuesday we had a district meeting with President at the mission home. What an inspired man. Wowowow. I didn't want the meeting to end. Afterwards we were taking district photos behind the church and like an hour later we were looking through the photos and saw that President was photobombing in the window in all of them hahaha.

On Wednesday we met Kelvin who was supposedly on a baptism date but turns out wasn't. :( It's okay though we can change that. He is about 65. He stopped taking lessons from the missionaries once he learned about tithing and stopped going to church but he'd only been twice. Sister Price and I couldn't find any members that were available to teach with us because it was in the middle of the day, so we thought we would just teach him outside... We aren't supposed to teach men without another female present unless we are out in the open. We showed up at his door and then it started pouring rain haha. He wanted us to just come back another time but I was determined to teach him because I was having a hard day and needed something to happen. So we suggested we sat on the ground in his entryway with the door open. So we did that. The lesson lasted for an hour and a half and I've never felt the spirit so strong in my entire life. (I always say that, but it was really powerful.) When we testified about the commandments and the promised blessings you could tell he understood and knew it was true. I think the hardest thing here is that people know it is true - they just aren't willing to make the commitment. The church does require a lot of us!!!! To me that gives it even more of a reason to be true. When much is given much is required, and God wouldn't give us something easy to believe in. He requires faith and lots of hard work in everything - including religion!!!! Anyways, the lesson was great. He had a stroke a few years ago and believes he was saved for some reason and he thinks that this might be it. Still searching though. Baby steps. We will get there. :)

Nothing could stop my high of happiness after the lesson. It was pouring rain and I forgot a coat (typical) and cars kept driving through puddles and drenching us and we had an hour walk ahead but I honestly did not care one bit haha. It's SO true that Satan beats down at you hard before a miracle is about to happen. I see it every single day. He asked us to come back on Saturday so we went back and got to actually be inside this time because we brought Sister Mawle with us. It was another good lesson about revelation. He gets off topic really easy and forgets what we are talking about.... But the spirit was there that's all that matters. And he came to church. :) He was nervous that people would judge him because he hadn't been for a long time. We told him the members would be more than welcoming, and they were! He only stayed 2 hours, but we were still happy. And he wants to come to General Conference with us next week.

We taught Oliver and Manee on Friday. Oliver is great. I love lessons with him. He always dresses up and gives us drinks and a treat before the lesson. And he always leads the lesson out and calls on someone to pray and reminds us of his baptism. I love it so much. He wants to make sure his baptism is 100% perfect. Manee is kind of progressing.... And her religion is Nepan. She's just struggling with commandments. She works at town centre so we try to visit often and just make her feel loved.

The members here are so dedicated. I love eating with them and getting to know them. Each of them have such special stories of finding the church. Member present lessons are the best. We are building such strong relationships with them!!! This week we ate with an older couple called the Dentons. They feed us every week because they think feeding the missionaries is their contribution to missionary work - SO TRUE!!! FEED MISSIONARIES!!! Gaining lots of lbs though unfortunately. We were leaving after dinner and I forgot to hug sister Denton and she goes "Mmhmmmm Sister McEwan! You're forgetting something!!" I thought I left my scriptures or something, but no. We have good laughs with all the members and so many memories already.

The elders in our district spoil us because we are the only sisters in a district of 8 elders. This week they bought us 16£ of lotion, a ukelele, and on Saturday they bought us bikes at some bike sale and are repairing them for us!?!!!!? What the heck!!! Today they're coming to visit us in Cannock. They're so nice and would do anything for me and Sister Price. We feel way too loved.

Saturday we helped Sister Mawle paint her house and then we had curry it was delishhhh and I'm obsessed with her kids I just love being at their house. I feel like I'm in Utah when I'm with them.

SUNDAYYY woohoooo. It was brill as they say here. I love playing the hymns. I wish I learned the organ before but right when I get home I'm taking lessons. :) Fast Sunday is 10x harder as a missionary btw because you have to walk everywhere hahaha it's okay though I feasted after. After church we went to the hospital to visit Ingrid. We went earlier in the week and she requested that we bring her some pears because she loves them. So we did that and were able to chat for a little while. Her and her family are recent converts. I'm glad we went when we did because it was visiting hours and pouring rain and her family doesn't have a car so they weren't able to visit.

Our day was planned like this: church, ward coordination, meet up with our potential Steven, go to the bishops for dinner, then visit Ingrid. The bishop cancelled on us so we decided we would talk Steven and then see Ingrid. BUT Steven was running late so we went and saw Ingrid first (sorry if this is confusing, there is a reason behind it) it all worked out EXACTLY how it was supposed to. We were able to visit Ingrid when her family couldn't, and we met Steven outside the hospital at a bus stop and talked for almost 3 hours!!!!!!!! And it was on quiet peaceful ground which wouldn't have happened because we were supposed to meet in the town centre. It was the most perfect day.

But Steven ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!! We met him street contacting last week (turns out finding actually works!!!) He is 20. Atheist. His whole family is. He's never believed in God but when we saw him on the street last week we challenged him to pray. He told us he did the next morning, before work, and he went outside and saw that it was sunny (super rare here) and he said he knew that it was a good sign. He said that he was so shocked when we stopped him on the street. He said he isn't really good at talking to people and that people don't care to talk to him ever so he was shocked when 2 random Americans cared to talk to him and get to know him. He said it made his day!!! He said he doesn't go out much. He said If people approach him he usually runs off but had a feeling to stay and talk with us. We've been talking over the phone through the week, and meeting with him was amazing. We taught him literally every lesson out of PMG in one setting because he was asking so many good questions and wanted to know so much. Oh my word he is a sweetheart and so ready and prepared to receive the gospel and he is totally open even though he has never had religion in his life. I had completely forgotten that I hadn't eaten all day because we were so into talking to him. He wants to meet again on Tuesday!!!! If the only thing that comes from finding Steven is just to be a friend to him, and letting him know that he is loved, that's all I care about!!! But we have a good feeling. You could tell he was feeling the spirit. And he admitted that he was. He said "I just feel so happy." Words can't describe how happy I was to hear that. It makes everything worth it.

Dyed a shirt purple today. #tbt  I swear I did my own wash at home idk what is going on. Also MASSIVE 18th Happy Birthday to my not so little sister Amelia on the 28th!!!!!!!! I love you so much you have no idea. I'd give anything to be there!!! Everyone give her a hug for meeee ❤️❤️❤️ so proud of you Mia.

That's about it from me this week. I'm making lots of friends, walkin many miles, learning more than I've ever learned in my life, eating loads of potatoes, English sweets and lamb, just working hard to contribute in the building of the Kingdom here in the United Kingdom. :)

Tarah tarah! Cheers and so much love back home. Miss you guys like crazy but happy beyond words. 18 months is nothin.

Panic in Cannock

Drawn by Sister Price
Nothing is wrong but panic rhymes with Cannock so we use this phrase daily when things go wrong. Two weeks down here and we are finally getting the hang of things!!! I love it sooooo much. I'm beyond happy.

Monday:
P-day was pretty stressful because the internet at the church wasn't working and after two weeks of no contact with the fam I was a little on edge. But!! We figured it out and got plenty of time to talk at the library!!!! Afterwards we ate dinner at bishops. It is so funny because he has 4 daughters and 2 of them are named Amelia and Isabelle. It made me so happy!!!! But also made me miss my sisters and Max:). Afterwards we visited two less actives. Kelly and Marcia. They were both sweethearts. Marcia let us in for a while and we talked with her and prayed with her. Next week we are going to stop by with treats for both of them and really just show them how much we love them.

Tuesday:
Tons of street contacting today. We have to build up a good investigator pool but it's so difficult when no one will listen to you or when people are just creeps. Seriously so many creepers here. Today there was a guy who was like 50 we were talking to. He was smoking and blowing it right into our faces (I smelt like smoke the rest of the day) we were teaching him and it was going great and then out of nowhere he said (I kid you not) "I have looked right into the eyes of the Devil." and we were like uhh ok and he kept saying "I looked right into his eyes." He kept saying it over and over it got super weird and we were like okay bye and then he said "Are you married? Do you want to be married to a British man because I can work it out." and he kept calling me Beverly??? And then we just ran away and prayed to never see him again it was terrible. The Utah bubble is real. Zero success after talking to literally every person we saw, but it's all about planting seeds. We got a ton of phone numbers and potentials but they won't answer our calls. It was burning hot all day then it just started down-pouring. The weather here is ridiculous I've never seen clouds move so fast in my life!!!!  You honestly can experience four seasons in one day. We went to youth night which was fun. The youth in the ward are great!!

Wednesday:
We met Manne!! She was the previous set of sister's hairdresser. She works in the town centre and takes lessons in her shop. We stopped by and had a good discussion with her for about an hour!! The only things holding her back from baptism are the word of wisdom and the law of chastity. She is from Thailand and believes in something called Nepal? I'm not sure sometimes it was difficult to understand. But she is soooooo amazing and she has read the Book of Mormon and is just trying to figure out which religion is true. But she does believe in God and has had many experiences with him. She has a ton of faith. Just struggling with commandments she doesn't see a problem with having a drink here and there or living with her boyfriend. We also met a GOLDEN INVESTIGATOR while street contacting in the town centre!!!! His name is Lamin he's from somewhere in Africa but grew up in the UK. We talked to him for like 45 mins on the side of the road. We taught him the Gospel of Jesus Christ lesson and almost all the restoration. He was so fun to talk to and would ask us tons of questions and when we answered them he'd always say "Oh I know that's true!" We were beaming with joy until he told us he lives in WOLVERHAMPTON!!!! Noooooooooooo! it's out of our area so we have to pass him onto the Wolve elders. :( We were so sad. But we've been contacting him throughout the whole week and he said his best friend lives in Cannock and he's here all the time so he would love it if we could come over and teach the both of them. So we can do that!! But still handing it over to the others. </3. It was hilarious though because about an hour later we saw him on a bus back to Wolverhampton and we were walking back to the flat and he stood up and started waving like crazy at us. Good guy.

Thursday:
Zone meeting. It was in Lichfield and took up OUR ENTIRE DAY :(. It's fine though. I got to see Elder Roberts and Elder Ey my fellow greenies from the MTC cause they're in my zone. I have never been so happy to see familiar faces in my entire life. It was sooooo sad though because I walked into the church and Elder Ey was just standing there with casts on both arms!!!!! He said he got hit by a car and wrecked twice on his bike and had to go to the ER. He's like my little brother hahaha I felt so sad for him!!!!! He had a good attitude about it though and was smiling and joking around as usual. Also heard good news that there's a follow up trainers meeting next month so I get to see all of the MTC group!!!!! I'm so excited to get the band back together ;). We took the train to Lichfield to get there. The walk through Lichfield to the chapel was GORGEOUS!!!!!! I will send pictures. It was super foggy and beautiful. There is a stunning cathedral our district stopped at on the way back. I've never seen anything like it. Dad I wish you could've seen it I know you would have died. One day. Then we began the long journey back to Cannock. Luckily we had our district so we made it fun. We were an hour late to our DA though because it was such a long uphill walk from the train station and my backpack was 400 lbs and it was b-b-b-b-blazing as Max would say. It was with a family from Cameroon, Africa. Ingrid is a single mom with seven kids. Her spirit and love for Jesus Christ was so powerful. I was so quiet the whole night because I was just so sad and wanted to help them and give them something. :( The journey back was long but it was the best nights sleep I've had since being out here and the hardest it's ever been to wake up. I was so drained.

Friday:
Same old same old. Talked to people. A lot of people will talk to us for a few minutes but they're convinced there is no God. Every day I get told a thousand times "So much bad happens in the world, if there was a God why would he allow it?" We try to describe agency and the reason for challenges and heartbreaks. People are just verrryyyy closed minded about religion. Also got the saddest news that Ingrid, the lady we had dinner with the night before, had a stroke :(. She is doing okay but will be in the hospital for a while and her brother is staying with all of her kids. At night we had a member present lesson with the Garners (the people who love the colour red) and our investigator Oliver!!!! What a sweetie!!!!!! He's 80 and was stopped by the missionaries 3 years ago. He has read the Book of Mormon and is soooo ready to be baptized. He has never been married but has a girlfriend. He hasn't missed a week of church until last week and he felt soo bad about it. His testimony is amazing. He's supposed to be getting baptized October 22 (I don't know why it's so far away because he's beyond ready) but he just pushed it back to November because he will be out of town :,(. I tried to convince him to move it earlier, but he wants to make sure everything goes perfectly and really has time to prepare. I'll still be here though so I'm glad I won't miss it. We taught him about what happens at the baptism and answered some of his questions. We will teach him every week before and after his baptism. Love love love him.

Saturday:
My first day door knocking. Sister Price has been so awesome with my desire to street contact. I just love talking to as many people as possible and when you're knocking doors maybe 2 people out of 10 even answer and when they do they're irritated that you made them get up to answer the door. So ya, it was terrible. In my opinion there are far better ways to find people (referrals, GQing, the bus, the store, ANYWHERE) BUT ITS FINE I will still do it. It requires a lot of faith and a lot of patience. Which I obviously need to work on. But it got to a point where I had to stop because it was way too negative and it was tearing down my confidence. People are so mean!!!! On the street they just say "Sorry I have to catch a train!" or something like that but at the door they won't even open all the way and just shut it and treat you like you're not even a human!!!! It made me so mad. So I had to step away for a little and do some serious praying. We're going to try again next week. I'm not giving up on it, just praying for a lot of strength to not have a breakdown the next time someone tells me
they hate uninvited guests and to get off their property like I'm an animal. :)

TO MAKE THINGS LESS DEPRESSING

LAMIN AGREED TO MEET WITH THE WOLVE ELDERS ON SUNDAY and we get to see him and his friend next Friday!!!!!!!!!! Yayayayayayayaayayyaya so exciting. The elders teaching him are our zone leaders and they're awesome so I have no doubt he'll have a great experience!!! It makes GQing in the streets all day worth it. Love him. Saturday was a hard day for Sister Price so we got together with our district and Elder Wall and Elder Gosturani gave her a blessing. Priesthood blessings are always the most spiritual experiences. Especially here on the mission when they're from your best friends. We are doing district GQing in the Cannock Town Centre next Thursday so we're excited for that. We have way too much fun together as a district!!! Our nightly call-ins are hilarious and we just end up laughing the whole time.

Sunday:
Woooooohooooo I love Sunday. Playing the hymns is fun but I get so nervous so bishop gave me the songs the week before so I can practice them whenever we are at the chapel. I also played Come Thou Fount and it went really well!!! The chapel was a little less empty because the Wolverhampton building is being redone so they all came to our ward. One guy from the stake came up to me after and asked if I would play in Stake Conference in November hahaha. Today I felt a lot more comfortable because we finally know the ward. It makes everything so much better!!! We're getting closer with the youth. We want to build these relationships so we can get as many referrals as possible!!! We've only been here 2 weeks and we are already seeing so many repeats of people we've talked to in the town and on the train. I've seen the guy who was rolling a joint when we were talking to him from last week at least 3 more times and every time I see him he's rolling. England needs to be slapped in the face with the word of wisdom pamphlet.

LAMIN GOT A BOOK OF MORMON today from the ZL's and can't wait to meet with us this week!!!!!! I can't believe we found him on the street just a few days ago. It's insane. I'm so excited for him.

Sister Price was sick after church and felt like she was going to pass out... We called Sister Leppard and she told her to just lay down and rest for the rest of the day... I wanted to go back out but it's
all good in the hood. Just means we will work twice as hard next Sunday. ;) We are spending our P-day in Walsall with the elders here and we've been exploring all day.

Next week is busy busy busy!!!! We are meeting with five investigators and hopefully find some more!!! We have dinner with the Maules tomorrow (love them). And have DAs every day after Wednesday. We will be doing lots more finding and door knocking (pray for my sanity). I love it here!!!! The pictures and videos I get from home make me so happy! I miss Bean and Coco and all the rest of you guys too. ;)

Cheers love!!!! To home from Great Britain.
